At some point we give up trying to second-guess the weather and head to the main stage. This is a good thing as we catch what we reckon is undoubtedly the best act of the festival. Laboratory Noise are strong and tight players. Their mixture of sounds is expansive but edgy and quite beautiful on all levels. Alternately fuzzy and jangly, they are a well-rounded band that we will watch out for in the future.

Laboratory Noise are in the same boat as The Nova Saints in that they seem to have hit on something theyre at ease with, have room to push as far as they want and are on the verge of taking the next step.

First off, all 5 tracks are winners. Secondly, theres enough variation there to suggest they are serious about making music that distills their influences into songs of orginality and relevance. Here She Is Evergreen is an instant hit. Swathes of feedback provide the intro to a pop song loaded with droning guitars that scream towards euphoria. As with all the songs you can imagine this is a band you would need to see live to appreciate the true scale of their work but, to me, it actually works on record. Its a rush listening to the songs play out and its pretty addictive.

Fans of Primal Scream will love the electronica infused You Created A Storm, its like a tornado of noise that races past at the speed of light before burning out in a glorious explosion of sonic colour. They follow that with the beautiful, acoustic based, lament, Someone Elses Head, as if to prove theyve got it in their cannon to take on all styles and its another example of a pop sensibility that shines throughout.

The band was formed in late 2005 and have been pretty busy, theyve already featured as soundtracks to TV and Film projects, and an album is expected around Summer 2008. On this basis its going to be a must have.
